The Big Bang Theory - Season 2

When the new TV shows of 2007 were announced (and Chuck was majorly pushed by NBC), a little show from the producer and creator of Two and a Half Men (very funny in its own right) and the writer of the original theme song to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in the 80’s (there is your useless trivia of the day) was created. The show was called The Big Bang Theory; I instantly tied it to a sexual innuendo and dismissed it. Boy was I wrong.

Instantly BBT was compared to Chuck, two comedies about geeks and how they function. I wrote about Chuck a few weeks ago, and if Chuck is the high production, light hearted geek story, then BBT is the do whatever it can to make you laugh, and create characters you have to laugh at, because you know (or are) that guy/gal!

Like most shows of the 2007-08 season, Big Bang Theory suffered from a shorter season. But in season two the show did a great job of spring boarding from the characters that were introduced in the beginning. The main five characters have great relationships, and their interactions are often priceless. The four guys are the geeks, each very brilliant scientific and engineering minds: Raj, a scientist from India who is often shy, and we discover in season one that he cannot talk to women unless he has been drinking; Leonard, the sweet hearted physicist that is only looking for that woman who will make him happy; Howard Wolowitz, a Jewish man who still lives with his mom, and is a persistent pervert; and last but certainly most important, Sheldon Cooper, the theoretical physicist with the most anti-social behaviors you have ever seen unless you know someone like this. Sheldon is the connective string that ties all of the characters together, and often is the catalyst for whatever issue is going on in that episode. Sheldon’s quips and social dysfunction are what really make this show work. Much props to Jim Parsons for pulling off such a character that, if this show continues its success, will go down as one of the most interesting characters in TV history.

Season two is a great continuation of season one, and gives us all a chance to laugh at ourselves, our friends, and those who we may have only heard about, but all in all, it is hilarious fun.

Well now I’m going to have to check this out. I haven’t actually seen anything about it, but the actors seem familiar. Curses! I didn’t need another show to add to my list!

Having almost finished watching my Season 1 DVD and currently watching Season 2 on TV, I have to whole heartedly agree with this review.

This is one of the funniest and cleverest (literally, at times) shows I’ve seen for a long time. I almost love it as much as I love Spaced.

    There, I said it.

And really, how did we ever make any decisions before Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock?!

Nothing compares to Spaced! What are you, crazy!? Ok, granted I haven’t seen this show, but still!

    I said almost!

Big Bang just kinda brings back memories of 14 year old me watching Spaced for the first time and realising that this is something completely different.

Give it a go, although starting from series 2 might be a bit tricky to get your head around the characters…
