After all this time, Bruce still knows how to handle the ladies.
Let it be known, I am a Bruce Campbell Fan, I have been since I heard the statement “AND THIS IS MY BOOM STICK” being uttered. So this review will be from the perspective of such a person. (Note: yes I saw Army of Darkness before I saw The Evil dead. Begin fan boy assault… now.)
My Name is Bruce, is a Dark Horse Entertainment Movie. (http://www.dhentertainment.com/) which is the same company that gave you great movies like Mystery Men and both Hellboy 1&2. The movie is set in a small fictional town called Gold Lick, which with some very basic detective skills I discovered is supposed to be in Oregon; not too hard for guy that was born and bred in Oregon. My name is Bruce starts off with two teenage boys whom are best described as Emo, who set out on a quest to get laid. They meet up with two girls (whom are yes, you guessed it, also emo) in a cemetery. Through some various antics they end up awakening what is supposed to be the Chinese god of war and bean curd, Guan-Di. Guan-Di’s goal is to kill those responsible along with their whole families; which ends up being the majority of Gold Lick. After fleeing in Terror, one of the boys named Jeff (played by Taylor Sharp in his debut role) enlists the help of the less then willing Bruce Campbell.
My Name is Bruce is meant to be a B-movie, so the acting is mostly a little forced and very corny. The prop budget was shoe string at best. Guan-Di is just a guy in a mask with glowing eyes and some mist with focus effects. But this movie had some loveable qualities. The death scenes are very funny. Campbell’s facial expressions are priceless as always, and Kelly Graham (played by Grace Thorsen) was very entertaining. Ted Raimi (Sam Raimi’s brother) plays multiple characters and is so bad that he is hilarious. This whole movie is a tribute the B-movie full of inside jokes from Campbell’s career, the most obvious one is the fact that much of the cast of The Evil Dead and a few other of Campbell’s movies are cast in My Name is Bruce.
Sam Raimi was filming Spiderman 2 at the time, but his brother made a great stand in. And the best part of all was the fact that it was filmed in my home state, which all the best movies are. *cough* The Goonies *cough cough*.
If you are a B-Movie fan, or willing to watch a movie based only on its entertainment value rather then its production value I would definitely pick up My name is Bruce.

Apparently Bruce shops at the same clothing store as Jack Carver.
I like how even though Bruce was supposed to be playing himself, he wrote the character as an alcoholic living in a rundown pile of crap trailer, with a TV set from the 70’s.
This movie was the most awesomely insane 90 minutes of 2009 ,so far. It was really corny and loads of fun. Points to Dark Horse for giving us the great ted raimi.
