Rollo De Koko: Mysterious Coconut Candy

Rollo De Koko: Mysterious Coconut Candy.

The other day in the gas station I frequently stop at for sub-par, but very cheap coffee, I spotted a pile (yes, they weren’t even in a box) of what looked like tubes of wax wrapped in plastic.

It turns out they were some kind of coconut product. For fifty cents, I couldn’t resist. I added it to the order, and continued on my way to work, where I sat the coco-wax-tube on my desk. That was four days ago. This evening I’ve finally worked up the courage to try it. For your benefit, reader. For you.

If I die, don’t bother trying to contact the company, the website provided on the packaging doesn’t exist, and the phone number is definitely long distance. I can’t find a single instance of someone eating a Rollo De Koko on the internet. Could it be because no one is alive to tell the tale?

O.K. I’m unwrapping it. This thing is basically a Fruit Roll-Up. I’d say it’s about the size of a cigar, and very sticky. It’s not actually like a Fruit Roll-Up at all now that I’ve got it open. It’s a solid mass. The smell is strong, but not necessarily in a bad way. Unless you hate coconut.

The Rollo De Koko is lightly toasted on the top, and the texture is what I was expecting. Surprises in texture are my greatest fear when trying a new food. It tastes like the Macaroon’s of Girl Scout fame; sans-chocolate. You’d have to really love coconut to be down with this thing. Luckily I do. It’s definitely not a single sitting kind of treat. In fact, this is so strong that it might make for a good challenge. Like trying to drink a whole bottle of maple syrup. You know, if you’re into that kind of thing. All in all, I’d say it’s worth the fifty cents, because it will probably last me another week.
